Christmas in the Big Apple

New York City. It’s a pretty common travel location. The bright lights, the art and culture, it’s enough to attract tourists by the thousands every year. This winter, I too was attracted by the allure of “The Big Apple” and decided to visit the city over break.

In ‘The Cloisters,’ dark academia gets darker

This fall, as I settled into a routine that mostly involved going to class and then burrowing into my bed for several hours, I began to crave a sense of this adventure. Then, Atria Books (a Simon & Schuster imprint) sent me an advanced reader copy of “The Cloisters,” Katy Hays’ debut novel, and I found exactly what I was looking for.

‘The Weekly Veg:’ Chicken-fried mushrooms with pepper gravy

Some people are mushroom-haters, and that’s okay. But I’m proud to say that this recipe, a Carla Hall original in collaboration with plant-based brand Califia, turned at least a few of the more anti-fungi The Miami Student staff members into, at the very least, tolerators of the ‘shroom.
