Starting in the fall of 2023, Miami University removed or consolidated 19 majors due to low enrollment. Now in 2025, more majors may soon be removed due to changes in state law and the relocation of resources toward majors with high levels of enrollment.
Many government-run organizations faced the threat of funding issues, and the military was no exception. While general troops were paid during the shutdown, there were fears that a long period of government closure could result in future missed payments and suspension of ROTC scholarships or stipends.
As college students focus more on their health, energy drink brands Bubbl’r and Bloom have expanded their marketing efforts to Miami University. From free beverage handouts in front of Maple Street Commons to building brand recognition within a new niche, a new target audience on campus has emerged: health-conscious women.
Miami University has 19 sports, not including club or intramural, and 540 student athletes. Each team requires coaches, funding and facilities. David Sayler, Miami’s director of athletics, is in charge of all of them.

Last week, the University Senate executive committee was made aware of a proposal to disband the University Senate. On Monday, Provost Chris Makaroff spoke briefly to the University Senate about The Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education. This is a Trump administration proposal to United States universities which would confer preferential access to federal funds in exchange for agreeing to certain demands. The offer was extended to any U.S. higher education institution.
This year, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) rated 257 United States universities on their free speech. Miami University received a “D-” rating in free speech climate, ranking 69 out of 257.
University Senate met on Monday to continue its discussion about the proposal to increase the teaching, clinical professors and lecturers (TCPL) cap for the College of Education, Health and Society (EHS), which would provide room for flexibility in the number of continuing faculty.
Miami University hosted its inaugural International Leadership Conference on Oct. 3-4. The conference included both lectures and breakout sessions with interactive components to engage students and other participants.
