Throughout our lives, we are told to grow up. This is college. It’s time to find that internship, update your resume and make a LinkedIn. There are so many things we must do to act like adults, and preparing for the “real world” becomes less fun. When you look at life from the perspective of tasks that must be completed, people that must be pleased, and have a no-nonsense attitude. Life can sound quite boring.

Oxford, Ohio, is a small college town surrounded mostly by farm fields. Without the amenities of a big city like Cincinnati, students often choose activities such as eating out, going to events at Oxford Memorial Park, partying with friends or hanging out on campus to pass the time outside of classes.

Last Thursday, the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action in college admissions. This practice, not used by all schools, has been a topic of debate since its inception. Regardless of one’s beliefs, the program succeeded in creating student bodies that are more demographically accurate to the nation.

College campuses have become a new political battleground for the right, and educational freedom is under attack. The Ohio Senate recently approved funding for “intellectual diversity” centers on various college campuses, including Miami University’s.

The week of June 5 started strangely for residents of Ohio, as a strange haze descended on the state, becoming most evident as the sun began setting and turned to a fiery orange instead of the typical soft yellow. The cause of Ohio’s, and much of the northeastern United States, sudden shroud of smog was the wildfires raging just north in eastern Canada.

Last week, the Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 83, a bill that would restrict public colleges and universities from requiring diversity training, from teaching diversity and from allowing faculty to analyze their work if it has any semblance of a political ideology as defined by the Republican-controlled congress.

The 2022-23 hockey season has wrapped up for the Miami University RedHawks. For sophomore forward Red Savage, he not only got to experience the college atmosphere but also the atmosphere on an international stage.

The Miami University Redhawks hockey team finished their regular season on a disappointing note. After taking a 4-2 lead against Western Michigan on March 4, they allowed two goals with the goalie pulled and eventually lost less than one minute into overtime.

On Jan. 31 I read an article stating that the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was ratified. Yay! I was excited to hear this, but then I realized I didn’t really know what it meant.
