Nearly 50 ambitious students from Miami University are participating in a program this summer called LeaderShape, a week-long leadership training program that focuses on leading with integrity.
Miami and The LeaderShape Institute have been working together since 1997 to bring a nationally recognized program to this area. This year the program is being held in Loveland, Ohio, about 25 miles from downtown Cincinnati.
Vanessa Braun works in the student activities department at Miami and for the past 3 years has been helping with LeaderShape. This year is her first year as program coordinator.
"They're doing really great," Braun said. "It's a really developmental focus week. It's a pretty impressive and inspirational way to learn how they want to change the world."
Braun said the students that are enrolled in the program are involved in all types of organizations and activities on campus.
"We have a number of honors students, there are student government officers here. You name it – it's really across the board," Braun said.
The program is designed just for college students and lasts 6 days, each day focusing on a different aspect of leadership. Students like Neelum Amin, who says she's taking the program for nothing more than personal gain, join alongside student leaders and others looking to build leadership skills.
The LeaderShape Institute is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 by Alpha Tau Omega.
