With the November elections less than eight months away, Oxford city council and staff debated possible solutions to Oxford Fire Department’s ongoing financial deficit. Assistant city manager Jessica Greene presented these possible solutions to council members last Tuesday.

Three Republican candidates for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat took the stage at Miami University on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. for the last debate ahead of the March 19 primary. The debate was held at the Gates-Abegglen Theater at the Center for Performing Arts and was broadcasted by WLWT News 5. 


City council decides comprehensive plan initiatives, may eliminate public Wi-Fi

At the Feb. 21 meeting, Oxford City Council focused on what the next few years will look like in regards to different initiatives pursued by the city, including green initiatives, affordable housing and economic development. City manager Jessica Greene presented this plan to council, which was created as early as January 2023. 


Chantel Raghu, vice mayor of Oxford, announces candidacy for Butler County Commissioner

In a room set with over 50 of her closest friends and supporters, Chantel Raghu announced her candidacy for Butler County Commissioner on Sunday at the Third Eye Brewery in Hamilton. Her declaration was met with applause from members of not only the Oxford community, but members of Butler County.




After months of financial struggle, Oxford Fire Department’s problems are far from over

With troubles beginning almost a year ago, Oxford’s fire department continues to struggle with its financial deficit caused by stretching its services thin. Oxford’s fire and EMS services currently serve Oxford, Hanover and Riley townships, as well as more than 16,000 students enrolled at Miami University living in Oxford.


Oxford City Council looks to limit number of cannabis dispensaries

At Oxford City Council’s Dec. 19 meeting, city council members discussed restricting the number of cannabis dispensaries within the city. As the year came to a close, council also considered the renewal of several contracts, including the The Non-Commissioned Police Division employees labor agreement and a three year fire and EMS services agreement with Milford Township.

Republican Senator proposes changes to Ohio bill that would overhaul higher education

Ohio Senate Bill 83 is back to the drawing boards as Sen. Jerry Cirino, R-Kirtland, announced that changes would be made to the bill, which would currently ban faculty striking, bar faculty from discussing “public policy controversies,” and limit diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training for students and faculty.
