Students report burglary after weekend away

Monday, residents of 209 N. Campus Ave reported that their home was burglarized on Sept. 22 while all residents were out of town. They reported that they returned home to find a kitchen window lying on the floor and a bedroom door forcibly entered and broken. The dresser inside the bedroom had been destroyed but nothing was taken from the residence.

Noise complaint leads to marijuana bust

Tuesday at approximately 12:05 a.m., officers were dispatched in response to a noise violation to 3770 Southpointe Parkway. Upon entering, officers immediately noticed an odor of marijuana and could hear music being played in apartment 727. The officer knocked on the door so he could be heard over the music. When no one answered he knocked a second time. A voice from the other side of the door asked to know who was there. The officer informed the male of the noise complaint and asked for identification. Officers were forced to obtain a search warrant when the male, identified as first-year Aaron Meekins, declined permission to search the apartment, according to OPD. Officers searched the apartment and found a marijuana roach under the couch, a digital scale, three glass pipes, rolling papers and a metal grinder. Meekins was charged with drug paraphernalia offenses and possession of controlled substances.

Police arrest first-year with fake identification

Wednesday around 1:30 a.m., Oxford police responded to a disturbance on the sidewalk in front of Brick Street Bar & Grill. Officers arrived on the scene and observed a large group of people arguing and taunting each other. They observed two males engage in a fistfight. The officers broke up the fight and asked one of the subjects for identification. The suspect began to pull out one card but then stopped and placed it back into his wallet. He then reached for a different area of his wallet and handed the officer an Illinois license, according to OPD. The officer was able to identify him as first-year Joe Tarkington. The officer then asked for the other ID card and Tarkington admitted it was a fake ID. The officer confirmed it as a fictitious ID. Tarkington apologized several times, stating he didn't want this to happen. Tarkington was charged with disorderly conduct and prohibitions, according to OPD.
