Students can now apply for passports on campus
Miami University students now have an on-campus location to apply for a passport. The Lifelong Learning department in 127 McGuffey Hall is offering this service on behalf of the Department of State. Lifelong Learning is open for passport applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. U.S. citizens with the intent to travel internationally may apply. Prior to this service, students had to travel to the Oxford Post Office located on Brown Road north of Sycamore Street. For more information, visit http://www.muohio.edu/lifelonglearning/passport.
University appoints new student engagment staff
Miami University hired a new senior director of student engagement for the 2009-10 school year. Katie Wilson, who began Aug. 20, will serve as a supervisor for the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Wilson will help oversee the staff, services and budgets of the organizations.
Before beginning work with Miami, Wilson worked at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas with student involvement, most noticeably student activities, Greek life and leadership and service programs. She also was previously employed by Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, Southern Oregon University and Stony Brook University. Wilson is a Miami alumna with a master's degree in educational leadership.
Interior design student receives $30K grant
Miami University senior Lauren Hucek, an interior design major, received the 2009 Angelo Donghia Foundation Senior Scholarship award competition. She was one of 13 people nationwide to receive the scholarship.
The $30,000 scholarship was based on a juried competition of portfolio submissions of a residential or a commercial project design.
The Angelo Donghia Foundation, Inc. was established by the late Angelo Donghia. She was an interior designer that was recognized internationally. The non-profit foundation provides scholarships annually to interior design students.
Judges are top New York City interior designers and editors. Hucek is the second Miami student to receive a Donghia Senior Scholarship since it started in 2001.
