The Miami RedHawks continued their undefeated conference play this weekend with a 2-1 victory over Longwood University on Sunday and a decisive 1-0 win over the reigning Mid-American Conference champions Kent State University on Friday.

Miami hockey loses heartbreaker to Providence

Miami hockey battled to overcome a 2-0 deficit against the Providence College Friars on Saturday, but the Friars scored in the final second of play to win 3-2. With Miami's heartbreaking loss, Providence took both games of the non-conference Friday-Saturday series.

Hockey opens season against No. 5 Providence

Miami hockey opens the 2017-18 season at home tonight at 7:35 p.m. with a non-conference game against the No. 5 Providence Friars. The RedHawks look to bounce back from last season's 9-20-7 record (5-14-5 National Collegiate Hockey Conference) with the help of returning captain senior defenseman Louis Belpedio and seven freshmen.

Martin set to return to Notre Dame

In 2012, Everett Golson, Manti Te'o and Brian Kelly led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 12-0 regular season and a berth in the BCS National Championship game in one of the most memorable runs in college football history. Current Miami (2-2, 1-0 MAC) head coach Chuck Martin was a part of that 2012 Irish coaching staff. Saturday, he will return to the South Bend sideline, but this time as a visitor.

Marking the beginning of Mid-American Conference play, Miami football (2-2, 1-0 MAC) defeated Central Michigan University (2-2, 0-1 MAC) 31-14 on the road. Gus Ragland had three touchdowns on Saturday afternoon.

The Miami University soccer team lost both games on their weekend road trip, falling to 0-9-0 on the season. Friday's 3-1 loss to the University of Toledo, coupled with Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Bowling Green State University dashed hopes of starting Mid-American Conference play with a victory, or two.
