How the birthplace of house music is shaping Miami University’s EDM scene

As the panelists for Up & Up Oxford’s DJ competition met in February to listen to sets submitted by students hoping to open for popular EDM duo Shipwrek. The panelists expected to listen to energetic tracks that amplify rooms and invigorate crowds. They didn’t expect to hear the blasting horns of the FOX NFL theme.For Andrew Solomon, a sophomore business analytics major, that’s the purpose of being a DJ — picking the right track at the right time, even the unexpected.

The College of Education, Health and Society welcomes new dean

From the moment Amity Noltemeyer became a graduate student at Miami University, she felt a strong love for the community that always welcomed and supported her. After graduate school, she worked as a school psychologist in Northeast Ohio. After receiving her doctoral degree and finally returning to Miami as a faculty member, she was confident she could help the university reach its full potential.

Teaching to save the world

I take in his casual and relaxed appearance, wondering what kind of “hippie” professor I had signed myself up for. Little did I know that in the next four years at Miami, I would be so impacted by this “hippie” professor’s passion and integrity that I would schedule three other classes with him, reconsider my entire career path and end up writing an op-ed for my university about his work.
