Charlie Merrill and Susanne Morrissey have been elected Miami University’s Student Body President and Vice President, respectively, for the 2026-2027 academic year following the end of the campus-wide election on March 18.
Merrill and Morrissey said they are eager to begin their term by maintaining a presence across campus, working closely with student organizations and serving as a voice for students.
“Anything that [students] want to have set forth for them in the future is achievable,” Merrill said. “They have someone in the room for them that will advocate and that will make sure their voice is heard.”
In a five-ticket election, the pair received 1,043 of the 1,860 votes cast. Aubrey Crish and Quinten Ahler, both current members of Miami University’s Associated Student Government (ASG), finished as the runners-up with 817 votes.
Scott Walter —assistant vice president for student affairs and ASG faculty adviser— said this year’s ballot was the first in more than a decade to feature more than two to three tickets. He attributed the increase in candidates to a growing student interest in improving campus life and making a difference.
As they seek to translate the University’s motto into tangible campus change, the pair’s “Love and Honor” pillar will guide their efforts to represent students and bring the community together.
“[Love and Honor] is how you carry yourself, it's how you hold yourself up in times of trials and tribulations and it's something to be proud of,” Merrill said.
The pair will officially be sworn into office in May.
