Miami evacuates three buildings for “unsubstantiated bomb threat”

Students evacuated three Western campus buildings following a bomb threat.
Students evacuated three Western campus buildings following a bomb threat.

The Miami University Police Department (MUPD) investigated an “unsubstantiated bomb threat” on Western Campus this afternoon and found no threats.

Havighurst Hall, Stonebridge Hall and Western Dining Hall were evacuated as of 3:50 p.m., and MUPD checked the area with its bomb detection K-9 unit.

Neighboring residence halls were not evacuated, and Resident Directors tried to keep the areas between the evacuated buildings clear.

The buildings were cleared at 5:05 p.m. Students can now return to their residence halls, and the area no longer needs to be avoided.

Miami is one of at least two Ohio schools to receive a bomb threat today. The Ohio University Police Department also investigated a bomb threat on its Athens campus and found no threat.

MUPD did not provide further comment.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
