Miami football’s season finale canceled due to COVID-19

Scratch another contest after the Miami RedHawks’ football schedule.

For the third time in four weeks, they will not play, as their Dec. 12 game against Bowling Green has been canceled. Miami is dealing with COVID-19 cases and contract tracing on its own roster.

The game has been declared a no contest.

With a 2-1 record, the RedHawks’ season looks to be over. Bowling Green was the last scheduled opponent on their calendar, although the athletic department could not immediately confirm that Miami wouldn’t pursue another game.

The RedHawks have faced the most cancellations out of any Mid-American Conference team.

They opened the season Nov. 4 with a 38-31 home victory over Ball State before dropping their next matchup with Buffalo. Miami’s following game against Ohio, the annual Battle of the Bricks rivalry game, was axed due to COVID-19 issues on the Bobcats’ roster.

After an 18-day layoff, the RedHawks resumed with 38-7 dominance over Akron. Last week, their contest against Kent State was canceled because of COVID-19 on the Golden Flashes’ roster.
