By Theatre department to honor Coretta Scott King | October 24, 2010Staff Theatre department to honor Coretta Scott King The Miami University Department of Theatre will present A Song for Coretta at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 to 30 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 30 to 31 in Studio 88 at the Center for Performing Arts. A Song for Coretta reflects on the life and influence of Coretta Scott King. The show is directed by Khalid Long. Tickets cost $6 for students, $8 for seniors and $9 for adults. They can be ordered from the Miami University Box Office at (513) 329-3200 or online. A pre-show panel discussion titled When and Where I Enter into Coretta's Song will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 27. The discussion is sponsored by the black world studies department. MU hosts exotic study abroad event Miami University will host an event for students looking to study abroad in exotic locations around the globe. Exploring International Experiences will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 in McGuffey Hall, room 322. The program will give interested first-years, sophomores and juniors an opportunity to learn more about unique study abroad experiences. Students will learn more about opportunities in educational reform in China, international health, student teaching in Australia and many other opportunities. The event is sponsored by the School of Education, Health and Society and the Dean's Student Advisory Council. Tables will be set for additional information and students and faculty will speak about their experiences. Admission is free and refreshments and door prizes will be available. Apple Inc. sponsors Battle of the Bands Apple Inc. will be sponsoring co-ed business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi's bi-annual Battle of the Bands as a result of campus representative sophomore Sarah Woody requesting the company's support in fall 2010. The organization will have a promotional table noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 in the Farmer School of Business lobby giving out free raffle tickets for a chance to win a $50 iTunes gift certificate or an iPod Shuffle. The group will have Rock Band set up for students to play as well. There will also be 3,000 Apple stickers given away. Battle of the Bands will take place for four consecutive Thursdays starting Thursday, Oct. 28 at Stadium Bar with finals Thursday, Nov. 18. Each Thursday, five $50 iTunes gift cards will be raffled off, and eventually, the iPod Shuffle.
