Miami Soccer 2022 season outlook: Approaching a breakthrough

In 2020, they were third in the East division. Then 2021 came and they were seventh in the conference, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot. With the 2022 season already underway, Miami has earned four points in the first two games. For the first time since 2016, the RedHawks look ready to break into the playoff zone, and they are still only getting up to speed.

Eyes are on Miami quarterback Brett Gabbert to take the next step in his development this season. He is among the players on the pre-season Maxwell Award watch list, an honor given to the most outstanding player in college football. Additionally, he was voted as the pre-season First-Team All-MAC quarterback.

The first think most observers would notice about a RedHawk football practice this fall: the practices feel tense and simmer with energy. Coach Chuck Martin said that is one of the strengths of the 2022 squad. u201c[The players] come to work, they compete, they have energy,u201d he said.

Jonathan Brand has shoved his way to success this season

When Sam Bachman was drafted ninth overall by the Los Angeles Angels this summer, it wasn’t clear who was going to step up as the next ace of Miami’s pitching staff that finished last season among the best in the NCAA. But as the beginning of the 2022 season progressed, the answer to that question quickly became clear: Jonathan Brand.


Dominique Robinson was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

RedHawks move on to the NFL

Dominique Robinson was the only Miami alum drafted this weekend, but he wasn’t the only one to get an NFL shot.  Mike Brown, Cedric Boswell, Sterling Weatherford and Jack Sorenson signed free agent deals shortly after the draft ended Sunday.
