Made-Up Mailbag: Week 6

Welcome to the latest installment of the Made-Up Mailbag, and happy Halloween. I wanted to give the mailbag a proper spooky theme this week, but I thought it might be too (candy) corny. While that hasn't stopped me so far with this column, believe me when I say this one would've ended up cornier than Kansas in August. I settled on the admittedly weak compromise of using the word scary a bunch and sprinkling in a few more themed (but still bad) puns.

Cross country finishes in top three at MAC Championships

At home and in the cold, the Miami men's and women's cross country teams both finished in the top three at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2012.

'Hawks score 10 goals, sweep Huskies

Miami hockey swept the University of Connecticut this weekend in dominating performances. The RedHawks (3-3) shutout the Huskies (2-5) 3-0 on Friday and commandingly finished the two-game series with a 7-1 win on Saturday. The 'Hawks played an aggressive offensive game and a tight defensive game to secure the victories -- minimizing mistakes from their previous three losses.

Women's basketball returns top players for exhibition

The Miami Women's Basketball team will be looking to improve on their mediocre 11-21 record from last season this Thursday at home in an exhibition game against Central State University. Though under new head coach Megan Duffy, the RedHawks are returning all of their rostered players, including standout sophomore guard Lauren Dickerson.

Revamped men's basketball roster ready for exhibition

This Sunday November 5 at 2 p.m., the basketball RedHawks take on the Maryville Saints in an exhibition at Millett Hall. This matchup marks the first ever meeting between these two programs and will provide a preview for 'Hawks fans of what can be expected from RedHawk basketball in the upcoming season.

Battle of the Bricks: RedHawks take on the Bobcats

After a three-game skid, Miami football (3-5, 2-2) found redemption in their decisive 24-14 victory at home over the University of Buffalo. Now, in a Tuesday night affair, the 'Hawks are pitted in a road matchup against in-state conference rivals, Ohio University (6-2, 3-1) in an effort to win consecutive contests for the first time this season.

'Hawks take on Huskies for the first time

Miami hockey will play the University of Connecticut tonight for the first time ever as the RedHawks' last series in their season-opening stretch. The 'Hawks look to beat the Huskies at home with improved special teams and determined play with and without the puck.

Five Hot Takes: NFL Week Seven

RedHawks back on track, back in MAC East race

Entering Saturday, the Miami football team appeared to be one loss away from falling apart -- the RedHawks were nursing a three-game losing streak, including two gut-wrenching conference defeats to go along with a blowout at Notre Dame. With a loss Saturday, the Red and White would have moved to 1-3 in the MAC East with little to no chance for making a run at a division title. With that pressure in mind, the 'Hawks played an angry, physical and determined football game, defeating the Buffalo Bulls 24-14.

Field Hockey no. 1 in MAC

In commanding fashion, the Miami University field hockey team defeated Central Michigan 4-0 on Friday to clinch the MAC championship and an undefeated conference-play record (5-0). The Chippewas fell to 0-16 on the year while the RedHawks remain .500 (8-8) after falling to No. 3 Virginia on Sunday 4-0.

Hockey splits high-scoring series with Maine

In two high scoring games, Miami hockey found themselves on both sides of the score as it split this weekend's non-conference series against the University of Maine. Still struggling to battle back from deficits, the RedHawks (1-3) went up early in Friday's game to eventually win 7-5 but fell behind early in Saturday's game to ultimately lose to the Black Bears (2-2) 6-3.

The Miami University Equestrian Hunt Seat team hosted their home show this past weekend, taking first and second against six other teams.
