North Korean aggression a grave threat, U.S. must coordinate to oppose it

North Korea is an impoverished nation, having a per capita GDP one 18th that of their neighbors to the south. As Kim Jong-Un's people starve and suffer unacceptable violations of human rights, North Korea invests in its military and its nuclear weapons programs. Kim Jong-Un is desperate to be taken seriously, and is using military buildup to chase this goal.

OPINION

Trump has shown strength in foreign policy

It seems like, for the first time in his presidency, President Trump has managed to momentarily suppress the left's inordinate criticism of his every move. Not because he is carefully navigating around their political soft-spots--in fact just the opposite--he is confronting them head-on in his trademark Donald Trump fashion. The president has spent his first 88 days making substantial moves according to many of his campaign promises, most recently his commitment to restoring America's supremacy with regard to international politics.

OPINION

Media marginalizes what it means to be disabled

For a guy, I've watched a lot of "Grey's Anatomy." Honestly, I've watched way too much Grey's. Yet, for some reason, after that first episode, I was hooked. Every day last summer, I would wake up and watch about four to five episodes throughout the day - each episode is 45 minutes long. Don't hate, we've all been there.

OPINION

'13 Reasons Why' handles suicide irresponsibly

The trailer for "13 Reasons Why" seemed preposterous, and I'm a staunch proponent of young adult-targeted TV campiness; "Bunheads" and "Make It or Break it" rank among my favorite shows, and full disclosure, I still record "Teen Mom 2" to binge over breaks.

OPINION

Controversial Pepsi ad misses the mark

Love or hate them, keep up with or renounce them, the Kardashian-Jenner clan and its affiliates (most recently: sugar-coated hair vitamins, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Blac Chyna) are almost comically inescapable. And the family members themselves do, undeniably, wield a lot of power in this nation, especially amongst millennials -- which is why Kendall Jenner's recently released ad campaign for Pepsi is so upsetting.

OPINION

Cozying up to Russia puts Syria in jeopardy

As we approach President Trump's 100th day in office, his presidency has been characterized as a pell-mell of big ideas trapped in a malaise of legislative failings. Hanging over this dubious litany of shortcomings is the cloud of Russian ties. It is still unclear to what extent the Russian allegations are legitimate accusations or the Democrats' attempt to destabilize Trump's presidency. It is clear though that some members of Trump's inner circle, specifically Mike Flynn, Jeff Sessions and Paul Manafort had improper and/or obfuscated communication with Russian officials. As such, it is inevitable and fair that Trump will continue to be dogged by Congressional investigations looking to uncover the whole truth.

OPINION

Accommodations are a necessity at universities, not an option

To have a disability can mean many things. People who have Down syndrome, autism, a learning disability, bipolar disorder or an autoimmune disease, are hard of hearing, wheelchair users, are deaf, blind, or visually impaired, can all identify their diagnosis as a disability, but to be disabled is something else. A social position rather than a medical diagnosis, for some it means identifying with a culture, but perhaps in one of the most heterogeneous minorities, the singular ubiquitous experience is one of feeling on edge. It is a precarious position when your essential physical or psychiatric being is considered a liability.

Stress less: Take a break from your schedule and find time for you

Our favorite time of year is just around the corner: finals. We're finishing up the last chapters of class, we're almost ready to turn in our lab keys and we're trading all the notes we can to make finals a little less stressful. Don't get me wrong, we need a little bit of stress in our lives; it teaches us to cope and function under pressure.

Addressing alcohol at Miami: Defining the 'why'

This has been an unusually emotional semester for our campus, as we have tragically and unexpectedly lost several members of our community. Our grieving stems not just from our own personal sense of loss, but through the realization that the world has been deprived of the enormous positive impact these bright and talented people certainly would have had.
