Just outside Armstrong Student Center, students were spending their first night of Halloweekend gluing white cut-up paper to form the wings of a golden snitch inspired by the Harry Potter series.

Among the silent studiers and book-laden shelves of King Library, the esports arena, tucked just to the right of the library's main entrance, is a world of its own. The neon red lights from the PC towers bathe the floor in an intimidating glow, and the walls are painted black and red, giving the room a more intense tone than the rest of the library. Rows of sleek monitors and elaborate red-and-black gaming chairs fill the space, providing the members of Miami's various esports teams with a well-equipped space to practice and play.

The Miami University Varsity Esports Program has added Super Smash Bros. (Smash) to their list of official varsity esports. Miami is one of the first collegiate varsity esports programs to adopt the wildly popular game.

Sitting outside of Miami University's King Library after dark on a Friday night, one can see all types of people headed Uptown for the night. However, amid the sea of people making the trek up slant walk, another group emerges. Instead of heading toward Uptown, this group makes a beeline for the library, straight to the back.
