How one retiring professor encourages students to follow their musical passions

For the past 36 years, Gary Speck taught courses in music education and conducted the melodic sounds of clarinets, flutes, trumpets, trombones and different percussion instruments. The melodies floated through the walls of Presser Hall, permanently staining the ears of anyone passing by. However, Speck’s time conducting the Miami University Wind Ensemble is coming to a close.

The last total solar eclipse that could be viewed in Ohio was in 1806, and North America won’t be in “the path of totality” again for another 20 years, with Ohio having to wait until 2099.







‘I keep coming back’: Miami’s increase in demand for learning services

Individual tutoring sessions, supplemental instruction and test proctoring are just a few things offered by Rinella, and all services are open to everyone.

Three Republican candidates for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat took the stage at Miami University on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. for the last debate ahead of the March 19 primary. The debate was held at the Gates-Abegglen Theater at the Center for Performing Arts and was broadcasted by WLWT News 5.
