‘Changing Climate, Changing Communities’ sparks conversation and celebrates local art

Music and conversation filled the Oxford Community Arts Center during the “Changing Climate, Changing Communities” art exhibition’s opening ceremony March 13. Organized by Engaging for Climate in Oxford (ECO), the exhibition features pieces from paintings to sculptures, all aimed at creating a local dialogue around climate change. 






Miami weighs options to address flights in 2040 carbon neutrality commitment

Miami University’s sweeping programs for its 2040 carbon neutrality pledge have aimed to reduce emissions without changing the experience of students and faculty. While some markets, such as geothermal and solar energy allow substitutions for carbon-based power to be easily made, this is not always the case.  


Natural disasters projected to threaten Butler County agriculture

Severe weather systems and increasing climate change across the country have led to the loss of more than $3.5 billion annually in the agriculture industry, according to a study by TraceOne. Butler County is expected to lose $213,000 per year due to natural disasters, with an average per-farm loss of $240.

Sarah Kennel and Taylor Powers, two editors at The Miami Student, investigate ghost stories and unique happenings in the Butler County area in the award-winning podcast, “Bizarre Butler County.” In this week’s episode, the duo heads to DeWitt Cabin, a log home built by Zachariah DeWitt in the 1800s and said to be inhabited by the family.

The (still) amateur ghost investigators, Sarah Kennel and Taylor Powers, discuss some stories from locations outside of Oxford, with the exception of the oldest structure on Miami University’s campus.
