Author Brendan Kiely was invited to speak at Miami University in Kreger Hall about his experiences with young adult storytelling on Oct. 15 as a part of the Western College Legacy Seminars series. He opened up about his writing process and what issue-relevant literature can achieve in this digitalized, modern age.
My friends and I often joke that society is definitely going to fall into a digital, automated ruin based on how much we love humanizing our robots. For example, you probably know someone whose favorite film is “Wall-E,” seen TikToks of people imagining what ChatGPT looks like to them (which is oddly enough almost always a man) or innocuously named your household Roomba.
A month ago, I attended Susan Ewing’s lecture on the inherent monumentality in her miniature art. From her dinner rings to her Prague-inspired stars, the idea that certain concepts could seem bigger than their literal size and could successfully translate into public installations was something that echoed in my mind.
The phrase “first-year junior” may seem like a contradiction, but it’s a reality for some Miami University students this fall semester. Dual enrollment has become a popular path for high schoolers over the last few years, especially with the introduction of programs such as Early College Academy (for Miami Regionals) and the heightened awareness of College Credit Plus (CCP).
