Where did summer go? This past week I was reminiscing on my “favorite” season, summer, as I dreadfully walked to my 8:30 first-year experience class in the rain. As a first-year student, these past five weeks have come with so many challenges, triumphs and just about everything in between.
Each spring I am reminded of how much I love summer. The pure anticipation of school ending, hot summer nights with friends, and of course, endless amounts of vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. Mhmm, my favorite!
I say this every year, but this past summer was unforgettable. Something about the summer after graduating high school felt so surreal, like a moment I was waiting my whole life for. Every day I would get in a pilates workout, head to my swim coach and lifeguard job, then top off the night with beach volleyball and a late night swim with friends. Oh and how could I forget, vanilla ice cream with sprinkles for dessert.
I remember thinking to myself: “Wow life can’t get any better, this is the best.” But as all good things do, it came to an end. My best friends and I moved away to college, began a new season of life and soon a literal new season.
This new season being my other “favorite,” fall. Since coming to Miami, I have met amazing friends and gotten involved with amazing groups; it’s finally starting to feel like home. The days are long, but the weeks are short. Before I know it I’m on my last meal swipe, and I will be using it to the fullest by getting a vanilla ice cream cone with sprinkles.
As the weather finally cools off and I’m not dripping sweat walking to my classes, I am reminded that fall is actually my favorite. The cool breeze, Norah Jones playing in my airpods, cozy sweatshirts and so much more. Ah, how I love carving pumpkins, eating apple pie and stomping on crunchy leaves.
After the pumpkins rot and the leaves all blow away, I say goodbye to my “favorite” season and suddenly think winter is my “favorite” season. Oh how I love Christmas, cozy snow days, sledding and just about everything regarding the holidays.
Then comes spring, my other “favorite” season. Warmer weather, shortsleeves, flowers and sunshine. Oh and it’s a little more appropriate to be eating vanilla ice cream with sprinkles. Then that quick turn around turns into summer, my other “favorite.” My birthday, no school and duh, ice cream!
All in all, fall is my favorite, I mean summer, I mean spring, wait I mean winter. Whatever my favorite season really is, the best part of each season is its new beginnings and adventures. OK, and that I can eat ice cream anytime of year. With a grateful heart I am so excited that fall is officially here! Being at a new school lots of adventures are sure to follow, and of course… my other favorite seasons.
