Shows to keep you entertained this fall

Sometimes the transition into fall can be scary. The weather inevitably gets colder, and class begins again. The perfect way to fight the impending sense of doom is to watch a good show.

‘Over the Garden Wall’

It feels fitting to start the list with my yearly fall rewatch. “Over the Garden Wall” is an animated series created by Cartoon Network with 10 episodes that run about 11 minutes each. The show follows two half-brothers, Wirt and Greg, as they try to make their way home through a daunting forest called The Unknown.

“Over the Garden Wall” is heavily inspired by early animation styles and folklore. There is a spot-on balance between silly and spooky while still maintaining a perfect fall ambience. This is a low-commitment show and can be easily watched in one day.

‘Twin Peaks’

The plot of “Twin Peaks” focuses on the investigation of the homecoming queen’s death in a Pacific Northwest town. The atmosphere of the town and David Lynch’s surreal style make for an atmospheric and immersive show, perfect for a cold and rainy fall day.

‘Yellowjackets’

Personally, I watch this show year-round. However, it fits into a haunting, suspenseful genre if that’s what you’re looking for in a fall watch.

“Yellowjackets” begins when a girls’ soccer team makes it to nationals. On the plane ride there, they crash in the Canadian wilderness for 19 months. This event brings out unexpected, ritualistic and animalistic behavior in all of the girls.

The musical score and overall tense atmosphere of the show keep you on the edge of your seat.

‘Gilmore Girls’

“Gilmore Girls” is arguably the show most associated with fall, so of course, it needed to make its way onto this list. For those who do not know the premise, “Gilmore Girls” follows mother and daughter Lorelai and Rory living in the cozy and eccentric Stars Hollow. The show follows the journey of their relationship, their struggles and triumphs.

‘Anne with an E’

The main plot is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s book “Anne of Green Gables.” Anne is a witty, intelligent and spunky 13-year-old girl who is sent by mistake to a pair of siblings on Prince Edward Island.

“Anne with an E” is a perfect fall watch because of the vibrant fall atmosphere and the comforting themes of found family.

No matter what you decide to watch this fall, there are plenty of shows (and movies) out there to hold your attention and keep you entertained and warm.
