Daybreak Coffee truck opens in Oxford

The Daybreak Coffee truck, a pull-behind camper turned coastal coffee shop, made its debut from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 5 in the lot behind the ACE Hardware on West Spring Street.

By the time the truck opened, a line was already forming at the order window, a mix of students and community members waiting to try the featured drinks on the menu.

Two hours in, that line had grown to stretch across the gravel car lot and spill over onto Spring Street. Reese Paudicz, a sophomore accounting major at Miami University, was at the opening.

“My friend and I had heard about [Daybreak] and got up early so we’d be there when they opened,” Paudicz said. “We got there five minutes after eight, and I guess everybody was really excited about it, because we ended up waiting in line for 30 minutes.”

They weren’t the only ones excited for the grand opening: The owners’ excitement has been building up over the last three months.

Owners Maya Robinson and Alexandra Mcfall share a long-lasting friendship and a passion for coffee. They began planning for the business in June 2026. The soft, coastal theme for the coffee shop was inspired by the time they spent in Charleston, South Carolina and the coffee shop they worked in while living there. Their mission was to bring the “beachy vibes” they enjoy to Oxford.

“It’s like when you go on vacation and find the best cup of coffee of your life, but after you leave you can’t get that for another year,” Robinson said. “So we decided to source beans, source syrups, source everything possible from the South and bring it here so you could have a little piece of your vacation.”

They’ve made plans to put down roots for the semester, ensuring that Oxford residents and Miami students will have access to a little taste of the coast — even in landlocked Ohio.

Some customers, like senior psychology major Kiara Amador, have already become regulars at Daybreak since its opening weekend.

“I tried it for the first time the Sunday they opened and absolutely loved it.” Amador said. “Anytime someone wants to meet for coffee or something, I suggest Daybreak so I can get it again. It’s so great they’re here for my last year; I’m looking forward to getting so many more coffees.”

Mcfall and Robinson are looking forward to the future of Daybreak following the promising opening weekend. They’ve since established a permanent location for the semester at 304 W. Collins St., beside Shademakers. They’re open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
