A guide to (kind-of) underrated Oxford restaurants

Historic red brick architecture, high-ranking academics, diverse nature and exciting sports — Miami University truly has it all.

Beyond the campus, the small town of Oxford blooms with excitement and character. Part of this culture comes from the diverse restaurants throughout town. Countless small businesses serve students and town residents alike, giving everybody something to enjoy.

There are the obvious Miami staples: Bagel and Deli, Skipper’s and Mac and Joe’s. However, Oxford has numerous underrated places that deserve to be appreciated just the same. Here are five places to eat near Miami University:

Cocina Latina

This newer restaurant brings delicious Latin American food to Oxford. Tucked behind Oxford Memorial Park, this is a great place for lunch or dinner if you’re craving authentic food. The menu ranges from burritos and tacos to cheeseburgers and chicken tenders. There is a plate for everybody.

Krishna

Another authentic restaurant, Krishna serves wonderful Indian cuisine. The service is quick and all of the food is amazing. I personally recommend the butter chicken with garlic naan — basic, but so good. The food always looks beautiful and tastes even better.

Doughby’s

If you’re sick of bagels (or the line is down the street), Doughby’s is the place to go. Open until 3 a.m. every night except Sunday when they are open until 2 a.m., they are always ready to serve. They have a variety of delicious calzones, with so many different flavor combinations. They also have mac and cheese bites and garlic bread. I highly recommend Doughby’s — stop by to try it, and leave something on their chalkboard walls as well.

Gaslight Brewhouse

Even though it’s not on High Street, Gaslight Brewhouse  is an Oxford staple. They have a large and widespread menu, with typical American bar food that’s taken to the next level. It’s a great place for families and larger groups. If you’re looking for a good buffalo chicken dip, Gaslight is the place to go.

Also not located on High Street, this is still a must-have. MImian serves delicious Chinese food. The service is super quick, and you can order it for takeout as well. It is affordable food that still hits the spot every time. You can never go wrong with orange chicken and fried rice.

Honorable Mention: Fridge & Pantry

Fridge & Pantry is a neat and unique place to visit when in Oxford. They serve sandwiches, appetizers, salads, breakfast and smoothies. The restaurant also has a bar, serving drinks and featuring amazing deals almost every day. It is definitely a worthy place to try, especially on those earlier mornings.

Realistically, my list of amazing places to eat in Oxford could continue for days. There is a place for everybody, and Oxford can guarantee you are going to find delicious food you love. Try these places out this year, especially if they’re new to you, and bring your friends and family with you.
