Devin Hyatt joins RedHawk receiving core heading into the 2026 season

In the rapidly evolving landscape of college football, name, image and likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal are taking a growing role among teams. For the Miami University RedHawks, it often means losing players, but it also allows them to bring in new faces that have prior years of college football experience.

One player Miami brought in this year is wide receiver Devin Hyatt, a transfer from the University of Arizona and a native of Bradenton, Florida. Hyatt totaled 8 catches for 119 yards during his time with the Wildcats, and now joins the RedHawks after two years of playing in the Big 12 Conference. Additionally, he is the brother of New York Giant and former University of Tennessee Volunteer, Jalin Hyatt.

Hyatt is a 6’ 2 receiver rated as a three-star prospect who also had offers from Auburn University, the University of Alabama, the University of Colorado, and the University of Kentucky before signing at Arizona. How Martin will use Hyatt is still unknown because he is an athlete who has many tools and a chance to start fresh at a new school.

“I’m explosive, I’m versatile,” Hyatt said. “I can get open as a deep threat, or as a route runner, and I can make plays off press or off man.”

After entering the transfer portal last winter, Hyatt looked for an opportunity to go to a new school where he could get more playing time and showcase his talent. Hyatt now gets this opportunity at Miami, following his commitment to the RedHawks in January.

“I came here for the winning tradition,” Hyatt said, “to be able to perform on the big stage, and for the opportunity to showcase myself and play football.”

Hyatt is beginning his time with the RedHawks and hopes to improve the team as a wide receiver and on special teams, committing to doing what he can to make the team better.

Hyatt also said he believes in the importance of the RedHawks' non-conference games, which will allow the team to see how they stack up against big names.

The receiver unit as a whole for Miami this year is set up to be strong. Following the departures of wide receivers Kam Perry and Cole Weaver via the transfer portal, junior Keith Reynolds headlines the group as the only returning starter. The unit also features returning sophomore Braylon Isom, transfer Damarion Witten from Ohio State, freshman Scoop Smith and returning junior Lynel Billups-Williams, among others.

Hyatt said he loves what he is seeing out of this unit, which is going to be a reliable group for whichever quarterback receives the starting nod once the season begins.

“We have great size, depth, speed and a lot of guys who can really contribute and make plays,” Hyatt said.

Martin and the rest of the coaching staff have loaded this RedHawks team with talent from returners and transfers.

In addition to Devin Hyatt, other new RedHawks freshly acquired from the transfer portal include redshirt freshman quarterback David McComb from the University of Kansas, junior running back Rodney Nelson from Monmouth University, junior linebacker CJ Young from Kent State University and sophomore defensive back Ben Minich from the University of Notre Dame, among others.

The coaching staff worked hard over the off-season to acquire talent in the transfer portal, marking the beginning of a new era as students watch to see who will emerge as the star of this team throughout the season.
