I’ve been involved in student journalism since high school, where I wrote for the student newspaper. I joined The Miami Student’s Opinion section on a whim during my first semester, because I missed writing for fun, and now I’m a staff writer.
Most of what I write is related to what I see going on around me, at Miami University and in Oxford in general. As a townie — I’ve lived here since 2016 — I often see community issues that are important to me going unnoticed by students. I try to showcase the parts of Oxford that extend beyond High Street.
Many of my arguments are informed by my political views. I lean left on almost every issue, because I feel that is the best way to achieve a just world where everyone has what they need to lead a fulfilling life. My goal in writing is to inform readers, convince them to make changes and ultimately move a little bit closer to a better world.
I strive to ensure every article I write is backed by facts. I believe good journalism, including opinion writing, is based on verification. Even though, as an opinion writer, my goal is to persuade, I try to give a balanced overview of the issue I am talking about, so that readers can evaluate my argument for themselves.
