What to do this February and beyond for a fun date

When February rolls around, love is in the air, and Valentine’s Day plans begin to brew. 

But in a town as small as Oxford, what is there to do? 

The Miami Student has compiled this list of activities in Oxford to help you plan dates with your significant other or to just treat yourself, no matter the day.

Galentine's Day at You're Fired

Feb. 13, 7–9 p.m. — You’re Fired

Attend this special Valentine’s-themed night at You’re Fired with your friends for an evening of chocolate and fun. The $10 fee will cover your studio fee for painting pottery, along with sweet treats. Those interested can register on their website.

Sketched Out Improv Show

Feb. 13 and 14, 7:30–8:30 p.m. — Pearson Hall, room 128

Sketched Out has its first show of the semester! Bring your friends or partners for a free night of improv comedy. Sketched Out also has shows planned for Feb. 28, as well as the weekends of April 10 and May 8.

Date Night Skate

Feb. 14, 9:30–11 p.m. — Goggin Ice Center

Join others on the ice for this Valentine’s-themed moonlight skate. Just show your MU Student ID for free admission. Skate rental is available for $3.50. 

Creativa Convergence in Hamilton

Feb. 14, 7 p.m. — Miami University Hamilton, 221 High St., Hamilton, Ohio

Miami’s regional campus in Hamilton is hosting an open mic for people to come and share their talent — comedy, poetry, music or anything else. Open-mic sign-ups begin at 7 p.m., with performances starting at 7:30 p.m. No RSVP is required, and if you miss it this time, no worries! Creativa has an open-mic on the second Saturday of each month.

Oxford Farmer’s Market

Every Saturday, 9 a.m.--noon — Next to Oxford Memorial Park

The Farmer’s Market is a perfect spot to walk around on a first date. The different stalls hold a little something for everyone, allowing you to learn what your partner likes!

Picnic Date

Anytime

Want to be outdoors with your special someone? Grab your loved one and hit the Oxford Area Trails! The walking paths can be romantic with a picnic on a bench, and the 11 miles of trail can make for a great, scenic walk. 

Drive-In Movie

Opens in late spring — Holiday Auto Theatre, 1816 Old Oxford Rd., Hamilton, Ohio

Just 15 minutes from campus is the Holiday Auto Theatre, where you can pull up, park and enjoy a feature film with snacks and cozy blankets. Some of the films coming later this spring include the “Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” “Toy Story 5,” “Minions 3,” “Evil Dead Burn” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Oxford Escape Room

Anytime — 110 S. Locust St., Unit B–D

Puzzle and Putt Oxford is a hot spot for those who love mini golf and solving puzzles in escape rooms. Puzzle and Put offers the perfect date opportunity for those who want to embrace their competitive edge while challenging your brain with logic games. 

Dinner and Bowling

Anytime — Oxford Lanes, 4340 Oxford Reilly Road

Nothing is more romantic than a candlelit dinner on High Street paired with overhead-lit bowling alleys. Whether it be Passanos, Pickle and Pig or Sorriso, Oxford offers multiple eateries for an intimate date night. And there's no better way to round out a nice dinner than with bowling! Grab a drink and lace up your bowling shoes.
