Mark Tersigni, a 34-year-old Columbus resident, has been convicted of stalking a Miami University student and her roommates. Tersigni received a sentence of 60 days in jail and five years of community control.

Oxford Police Department records show that Tersigni first became a suspect in November 2024 when one of the victims reported him to Oxford police. He was seen on a Ring doorbell walking by the victim’s house and looking through her windows.

Tersigni is recorded to have visited Oxford more than 70 times in less than three years, though he may not have engaged in stalking on each occasion.

According to a MUPD incident report, Miami police arrested Tersigni on March 12 after following one of the victims into the Rec center. He closely followed another person to try and get past the entrance control gate without paying, causing an alarm to sound. One of the victims recognized Tersigni and called the police. Tersigni was arrested for criminal trespassing and identified as the suspect in the November reports.

“In my mind, at the time, I never thought that I was following someone, and now I know that’s not true, and I just am so sorry for what I put the victims through and what I put the family through. I will never forgive myself,” Tersigni said during his Oct. 29 sentencing.

The judge ordered Tersigni to never enter Miami or Oxford again. No protective order was filed to prevent Tersigni from having the address and personal information of the victims.

Seth Bauguess, senior director of communications at Miami, said he recommends students report incidents of potential stalking to the police, even if it seems minor, and to keep a record of any texts, emails, social media messages or other communications a potential stalker makes.
