Miami University participated in World Creativity and Innovation Week (WCIW), a week-long celebration that occurs each year from April 15 to 21. It runs from Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday to Earth Day. April 21 is World Creativity and Innovation Day (WCID), a United Nations-recognized holiday. WCID celebrates all forms of creativity and encourages people to use creativity and innovation to advance the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals.

There are currently 160 countries (and counting) celebrating WCIW/D, and Miami is the headquarters. Miami’s professor Jim Friedman is both the Chief Steward of WCIW/D and the United States Creativity Ambassador. MUCCI (Miami University Community for Creativity and Innovation) is Miami’s student-run organization that works to transform Oxford into Creativity City in celebration of WCIW each year.

This year, several interactive walls were placed around campus to celebrate Creativity City. Welcome Walls were placed at the Phi Delt Gates and in front of Shideler Hall. The Sustainability Wall containing each of the United Nations’ 17 development goals was outside the Armstrong Student Center. The Flower Wall, made of greenery with a neon LED sign reading,“I flourish in Creativity City,” was constructed on Sorority Quad. Lastly, two Doodle Walls were created for people to draw on with Sharpies. The first was placed outside the Farmer School of Business, and the second was outsideShriver.
