Events to help you celebrate Women’s History Month

Across the U.S., March is recognized as an annual celebration of women and all of their historical and societal contributions. Miami University is holding multiple events across its campuses to celebrate Women’s History Month. 

The Miami Student has compiled a list of events to help you honor and celebrate women this month.

Libraries: List of Films

The Miami University Library System has a list of films you can watch for free on your Miami device. These films range in topic, length and type. Documentary films like “RBG,” “Girl Rising,” and “(un)veiled: Muslim Women Talking about Hijabs” are all featured, as well as blockbuster films like “Hidden Figures” and “Little Women.” 

March 13

Seventh Annual Women’s Journeys, Women's Voices: The Refugee Experience [10 a.m.]

At the Middletown campus, female refugees from throughout Southeastern Ohio will speak about their experiences in the U.S. These women are from across the globe, including Bhutan, Burundi, Iraq and Syria. It is sponsored by the Regional Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Regional Office of Student and Academic Success. 

March 14 

Women’s History Month Karaoke [7 p.m. - 10 p.m.]

MAP and The Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be hosting this fun event the evening of March 14 in Red Zone in Armstrong Student Center. 

Intro to MAD Studies Workshop [2:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.]

This event is targeted toward those looking to learn more about a career working with psychiatric disabilities, as well as learning more about activism as a whole. 

March 16

Linda Singer Memorial Lecture: Dr. Amia Srinivasan [4:30 p.m.]

Amia Srinivasan is the author of “The Right to Sex,” which was published in 2021. In it, she presents a set of feminist essays about the politics of sex and sexual justice. On March 16, she will be speaking in Macmillan Hall about the philosophy of her last book, as well as her upcoming one. This event is being hosted by the Miami University Department of Philosophy. 

March 21

Coffee and Conversations: Healthy Relationships After Assault [6 p.m.]

This event, sponsored by Student Wellness and Women Helping Women, will help all survivors understand healthy relationships after an assault. This will be an opportunity to add “tools to your toolbox” in order to navigate future relations, and is open to all survivors of assault, regardless of gender and sexual identity.

March 30

Hannah Arendt: For or Against Authority? [5 p.m.]

Distinguished Professor Dana Villa will be speaking in the Shriver Heritage room about political philosopher and Holocaust survivor Hannah Arendt. Ardent’s work dealt with politics and the power of good and evil.
