Senior pitcher Taylor Rathe winds up to pitch during a March 31 game against Eastern Kentucky. Rathe allowed 3 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in Tuesday's win over Butler.

The Miami RedHawks women’s softball team faced the Butler Bulldogs on Tuesday, eager to capture another win and extend its streak.

The ’Hawks started off strong, allowing no hits in the top of the first inning.

Sophomore outfielder Kate Kobayashi secured the first RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly, sending freshman infielder Karli Spaid across the plate.

Senior infielder Mackenzie Moore earned two RBIs from her single to right field, as junior infielders Adriana Barlow and Allie Cummins each scored a run.

Moore scored the final run of the inning off a hit from senior outfielder Morgan Lott, putting Miami up 4-0 at the end of the first.

The second and third innings were scoreless for both teams.

The Bulldogs were able to send one runner across the plate in the top of the fourth, but Miami answered back with a double from Barlow to bring home freshman outfielder Karlee Juarez.

In the fifth inning, Butler scored two runs, making the score 5-3 before junior pitcher Brianna Pratt came to the mound to relieve senior Taylor Rathe.

Spaid scored the last run of the game when she hit her fourth over-the-fence home run of the season.

The ’Hawks won the game, 6-3, raising their record to 18-6.

Miami continues Mid-American Conference (MAC) play with a four game series at Akron this weekend. The first game of the series is set for Friday at 3 p.m.
