‘Hawks to play in Colleton River Colligate

By Ben Vandertill, The Miami Student

Miami University golf travels to Bluffton, South Carolina to hit the links for the Colleton River Colligate Tournament.

The RedHawks have had a strong showing thus far in the spring season, but look to continue to improve, using this tournament as a stepping-stone toward success.

Head coach Zac Zedrick hopes his squad can rise up to the challenge that lies ahead.

"We competed there last year, and this year we are playing both courses which we don't normally do," Zedrick said. "It will be a good challenge for our players. We saw some good things last month but definitely think we can do better. We are definitely excited and ready to go."

The RedHawks have been inside since the Earl Yestingmeier Match Play, on Feb. 9 and 10. Miami came away with a 5-1 win over rival Ohio University, but lost a 4-2 to the University of Toledo.

Last year in this tournament, the RedHawks finished seventh out of nine teams. Their opponents included Winthrop University, Kennesaw State University, Michigan State University, Rutgers University, the University of Connecticut, Seattle University, Oakland University and Detroit University. Miami shot 907, right behind Seattle. Winthrop University took home the crown in 2014, posting an 874.

With the RedHawks reaching the mid-point of their spring part of their season, they look to play some of their best golf this season. They have finished in middle of the pack in their last few tournament play matches.

The two-day Colleton River Colligate Tournament starts March 9.
