The RedHawks did some spring cleaning this weekend. Not only did the RedHawks shut Central Michigan out Friday, but pitcher Courtney Vierstra pitched a perfect game.
Miami baseball isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s certainly fun to watch.
All 32 NFL teams were in attendance Monday for Miami football’s pro day.
Going into the series, the RedHawks were on the outside looking in at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament. The team needed to win two games against Central Michigan and hope the Kent State Golden Flashes also lost their game.
The results were rarely there this year for Miami hockey. Despite this, the team showed promise, getting marked contributions from young players, and often playing close games against top teams in the country.
The ’Hawks swept the Western Michigan Broncos, winning all four games and only giving up two runs the whole weekend.
The Redhawks claimed victory again, 25-22, to win 3-1 and sweep the series. Player of the Game, Morgan Seaman, deserves much of the credit for the victory, as she casually collected 55 assists to go along with a couple of kills.
The Toledo Rockets visited McKie Field last weekend for Miami’s first series of Mid-American Conference (MAC) play. The RedHawks took the series, winning three-of-four games against their cross-state conference rival.
Miami women’s field hockey faced the toughest test of its young season Monday.
The Miami men’s track and field team held their own against tough competition at this year’s NCAA indoor national championships.

The RedHawks may have lost two out of the three games last weekend, but they secured a big win as well.
“Tonight was not a good match for the RedHawks,” head coach Carolyn Condit said. “Tomorrow, we’re going to have to clean up our offense.” And that is exactly what they did.
Sophomore guard Dae Dae Grant was candid about why Miami’s comeback effort wasn’t enough to beat the Buffalo Bulls Thursday night. “First off, I’ll put it on me,” Grant said. “Coming out of the (timeout), coach drew up a play, and I turned the ball over.” Grant’s late-game turnover was costly, as his team lost, 74-63, at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
On some losing teams, the season can’t end quickly enough.
The Miami RedHawks women’s soccer team has not had a winning season since 2015. On March 3, Miami was picked to finish last out of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) preseason poll. Head coach Courtney Sirmans has other plans.
Miami plays the University of North Dakota, Friday, March 13, at 7:37 p.m. in the NCHC quarterfinals. The RedHawks have a tough task ahead. North Dakota is currently ranked No. 1 in both the NCHC and the country, and rosters 12 National Hockey League (NHL) draft picks.
It feels like it was a lifetime ago, but this time last year, the Miami RedHawks were six games under .500 and heading into the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament as the 12th seed.
It looks like the Miami RedHawks are early birds.
The Miami RedHawks are excited to be playing softball this year after last year’s season was cut short by two months. Still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the season looks a little different this year. Practices have to happen in small groups, and schedules are constantly changing.
