Deer populations in Miami University’s Natural Areas (MUNA) have skyrocketed in the past decades, and the forest can’t keep up. This increase in population has led to biodiversity loss and created a void for invasive plants to grow and take over the land.

Our advancements in sustainability are some of our proudest accomplishments here at Miami University. With President Gregory Crawford’s recent pledge to carbon neutrality by 2040, sustainability-focused events are becoming more common on campus. What sometimes goes unmentioned and unnoticed in today’s world is how much light we flood into our night sky. When this light is harmful to birds, animals or stargazers, it is known as light pollution. Oxford is not immune from the problems of light pollution, and this caught the attention of Talawanda High School senior Addison Greene, who wrote a paper on the subject.
