Whether you're a first-year student or a senior, coming back to campus is a time to reconnect with old friends and – hopefully – make some new ones. It can be easy to feel alone, so here are my top recommendations for books about friendship to help you feel a little less lonely. Some are slightly tragic, and some more hopeful, but all of these books have helped me feel more connected to those around me.






University Senate discusses business co-major, new world languages and cultures major, graduate student hours

University Senate met to hear a proposal for a new business co-major housed within the Farmer School of Business (FSB). The senate also passed a proposal to create a new major in the language department and a policy change to the combined graduate degree program at its meeting April 28.












The Miami Student wins Best College Newspaper for second year in a row

The Miami Student staff won 13 awards at the Region 4 Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) conference on April 4, including the 2025 Corbin Gwaltney Award for Best All-Around Student Newspaper in the large school category, beating out every student paper at a university over 10,000 students in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. This is the second year The Student won this distinction.


‘This is not the country I grew up in’: Oxford community protests current administration

More than 100 people, ranging from elementary schoolers to retired community members, gathered in Oxford Memorial Park Sunday afternoon. The event was designed to protest various grievances under the current government administration, from cuts to healthcare initiatives to tariffs.
