For many, the most exciting part of coming to college is not the academics — it’s the social life. If you are like me, the first time you plan to go out to Brick Street, most of your prep time will be spent frantically trying to pick a cute and at least somewhat functional outfit. This guide will have a few ideas that will make your outfits cuter and possibly more convenient.

Boots

When the weather gets brisk, my go-to is a pair of tall boots. Not only do they keep you a little bit warmer, but they make a perfect emergency pocket. If you forget to bring a purse or if your pants don’t have pockets, you can easily slip small items into your boots. Boots can also go perfectly with any type of bottom. My favorite combination with boots is a jean skirt.

Denim

You cannot go wrong with denim. Whether that be full jean pants, shorts or a skirt, any type of denim can immediately elevate your outfit. You can even bring in denim to the top of your outfit with a denim jacket or vest.

Layers

Even when it’s cold outside, inside Brick Street can be hot and uncomfortable. It’s nice to have something easy to remove for when you inevitably get too hot. I think camo jackets, plain jackets or, as previously mentioned, denim jackets are a perfect way to layer.

Halter tops

These types of tops are perfect to wear alone or under jackets. They are comfortable, yet the cut of them alone is stylish. A bonus is that underneath jackets, the nonexistent sleeves can’t roll up in strange and uncomfortable ways.

Accessories

Accessories can elevate an outfit to another level. Belts not only serve functional purposes but can add color or patterns to your outfit. Plain belts go best with patterned clothes while fun and colorful belts pair well with a more minimalistic base.

No matter what type of jewelry you typically wear — chunky or thin, silver or gold — you can’t go wrong with a pair of hoop earrings. Cute earrings immediately elevate an outfit.
