It’s the time of year again, when four-leaf clovers, leprechauns and green beverages fill the streets of Oxford. However, for underclassmen and those who don’t drink, it’s easy to feel removed from the celebrations of Green Beer Day. Here are some movies and shows to watch to get in the Green Beer Day and St. Patrick’s Day spirit without actually consuming green beer.
‘Leprechaun’
I am a firm believer that St. Patrick’s Day isn’t complete without an annual rewatch of “Leprechaun.” The hilarious horror film stars Jennifer Aniston, before she joined the cast of “Friends,” as she tries to survive a murderous leprechaun seeking revenge.
As you can probably imagine, a horror film about a leprechaun isn’t necessarily a quality movie. That being said, it’s one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and it is a must-watch this Green Beer Day.
‘The Office’ – Season 6, Episode 19 – ‘St. Patrick’s Day’
“The Office” is a sitcom classic regardless of the season, but the episode dedicated to St. Patrick’s Day is a bonus. The Dunder Mifflin staff celebrate the holiday while also managing their usual office tasks. It’s hilarious and perfect if you’re looking for a good laugh.
‘Leprechaun: Origins’
This is one of the lowest-rated films in the “Leprechaun” franchise, and rightfully so. Any film in this series is terrible and somehow amazing at the same time. Other notable mentions are “Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood” (why on earth was this film made?) and “Leprechaun 4: In Space.” Anything in this franchise is perfect to celebrate the holiday, while also making you question your sanity.
‘30 Rock’ – Season 3, Episode 14 – ‘The Funcooker’
I am a firm believer that “30 Rock” is one of the greatest shows ever created, and it has an episode centered around St. Patrick’s Day. How perfect is that? Jenna (Jane Krakowski) and Tracy (Tracy Morgan) do an awful job of hosting the St. Patrick’s Day broadcast, causing a lot of trouble for Jack (Alec Baldwin).
Season 6, Episode 12 titled “St. Patrick’s Day,” is, fittingly, also about the holiday. Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) shows no interest in celebrating, and as is always the case in “30 Rock,” chaos ensues. It’s also the episode where Jenna and Tracy can’t agree on who is host No. one and who is host No. two, which is one of the funniest, most memorable moments in the show for me.
‘Phineas and Ferb’ – Season 3, Episode 30 – ‘Just Our Luck’

If you’re anything like me, you grew up obsessed with “Phineas and Ferb.” This episode, titled “Just Our Luck,” focuses on, you guessed it, luck. The theme of luck is commonly associated with St. Patrick’s Day, making this episode a great one to watch to celebrate the holiday.
‘The Simpsons’ – Season 8, Episode 18 – ‘Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment’
One very important thing to know about me is that I love “The Simpsons.” It’s my go-to background show for whenever I need to work on something. It’s peak comedy.
This episode in particular focuses on a chaotic St. Patrick’s Day, followed by the proposal of prohibition in Springfield. It’s a hilarious episode that ties in the holiday, so it’s a great, quick watch for this Green Beer Day.
While not everyone can go out and party to celebrate Green Beer Day and St. Patrick’s Day, there are many different ways to celebrate from the comfort of your own couch.
