Local performing arts events set to entertain you this spring

This spring, Oxford will be home to a variety of live performances, featuring music, theater and more. For more information on these events, visit the Oxford Community Calendar or the Miami University Events Calendar.

Red Door Community Concerts

The Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will be continuing season five of its Red Door Community Concerts Series this spring. These will be held at the church, 25 E Walnut St, and are free and open to the public. The performances will also be streamed on YouTube.

On Jan. 30, Rachel Miller will be playing harp, and Vidita Kanniks will be singing. On March 6, Frank Huang will be playing piano and on April 17, the Miami University Chamber Singers will be performing, conducted by Reina Dickey.

10SoCo Concerts: Tommy Ryman

On Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m., comedian Tommy Ryman will be performing at Oxford Community Arts Center (OCAC). His work is known as being “disturbingly adorable,” according to the OCAC. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military, which can be purchased on the OCAC website.

2nd Friday Celebration of the Arts

On the second Friday of each month, the OCAC is holding the Celebration of the Arts, featuring a live performance, gallery exhibition opening and artist reception. This semester, these events will be held on Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8 at the Arts Center.

‘12 Angry Jurors’

OxAct, the Oxford Area Community Theater, will be putting on a production of the classic play “12 Angry Jurors.” The performances will be held at the OCAC on Feb. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 22 and March 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets will be $15 per person and will go on sale Feb. 1 on the OxAct website.

‘Spamilton: An American Parody’

On Feb. 27, the Miami Performing Arts Series is presenting “Spamilton: An American Parody,” a parody of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton.” The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $26 for adults, $24 for seniors and $14 for students and youth.

Sketched Out Alumni Show

For the first time ever, Sketched Out Improv will be hosting former members of the group for an alumni show. The performance will take place on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Pearson Hall, room 128. 

‘By the Way, Meet Vera Stark’

This spring, the Miami Department of Theatre will be presenting the play “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark” by Lynn Nottage. The play follows a Black actress in the 1930s. Performances will take place from March 11 through March 15 at the Studio 88 Theatre.

Symphony Orchestra Performance

On March 13, the Symphony Orchestra Performance will be held at Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The Miami University Symphony Orchestra has been performing since 1890. At this performance, catch them playing some of their orchestral repertoire.

Stage Left

10SoCo Concerts: How Sweet It Is

On March 28, the OCAC will be presenting “How Sweet It Is,” a concert featuring Grammy-winner Steve Leslie. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m., and tickets range from $18 to $20. Leslie will be performing the music of James Taylor, and he will be accompanied by Kyle Tupper on piano.

‘Into the Woods’

The Miami University Department of Theatre will be presenting its spring musical, “Into the Woods,” May 1 through May 7. The Sondheim classic that puts a new twist on the fairytales we all know and love will be performed in the Gates-Abegglen Theatre.
