Free parking Uptown from Dec. 15 to Jan. 10

Lt. Geoff Robinson from the Oxford Police Department presented a resolution to make parking Uptown free over Miami University’s winter break. A message will be displayed on the smart meters about the update.

Councilor William Snavely spoke about the importance of this resolution

“I hope the people in town take advantage of [this] opportunity to go to the businesses Uptown who are about to lose most of their clientele," Snavely said. “Let’s go out and support our local businesses.”

Snow route ordinance to be enforced

Residents who live on Oxford’s Snow Route are required to clear their sidewalks of any snow following snowfall of three inches or more.

Residents who fail to clear their sidewalks within 24 hours will have their sidewalks cleared by the city and will be sent an invoice for the cost of the clearing, with an additional 40% fee. Unpaid invoices will be added to the property tax bill of the home.

Robinson explained how cars parked along the snow route would be handled.

“Our parking division on the 15 [of December] will survey all of the snow routes for any cars that are parked, we will do our digital documentation of the cars that are parked there and 72 hours later we will contact the owners of any cars that have not moved,” Robinson said. “A week or two after that, we will preemptively tow those cars.”

The towing of the cars will make it easier for snow plows to navigate the streets.

At their first meeting, recently elected councilors Roxxane Ornelas and Jim Vinch thanked voters for their support and invited their constituents to contact them and share their opinions.

“I encourage the public that if they think I’m not doing the job [correctly], or they have input or want me to do something better or different to contact me and I will address it with them immediately,” Vinch said.

City council will meet again on Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oxford Courthouse.
