The Associated Student Government (ASG) convened on Tuesday, although several senators were absent from the chambers.
Secretary Wade Warren addressed the senate about the League of Women Voters (LWV), a non-partisan political organization with a chapter in Oxford, encouraging members of ASG to join, and distributed voters’ hand guides created by LWV.
Secretary Tyreke Farquharson addressed a concern that had been brought up last week about tree and bush overgrowth off-campus. Farquharson said he brought the concern to the Streets and Maintenance Division for the city of Oxford. He also said he planned to bring up ASG concerns about the closure of the skatepark at the city council meeting.
Parliamentarian Aubrey Crish brought up a concern involving parking tickets. She said she was ticketed after parking in front of Havighurst Hall for a short period of time while she unloaded her car.
“If you're only parking I believe the limit is up to 15 minutes, like if you're unloading your groceries or something, you can go ahead and call the parking transportation number,” Ryan Jeansonne, secretary of safety and transportation, said. “They will exempt you, and they won't ticket you for those 15 minutes.”
Senator Bill Kwan said he had heard student complaints about administrators spontaneously rescheduling appointments, especially at places like the Howe Writing Center.

“There's one student that came to me [and said] it was rescheduled for different times,” Kwan said. “All the times were different, they were promised on days that the university said were unavailable, that suddenly became available, [and] vice versa.”
The concern was committed to the Campus Affairs Committee to look into possible solutions for the scheduling problem.
Senator Elena Zicarrelli brought up a concern about the lack of lights in areas surrounding campus. She committed the concern to the Safety and Transport Committee. Other senators also said they had noticed how dark many areas near campus were. Senator Liali Mourra said she felt the lack of street lights also made driving dangerous.
“It's really late, and a lot of the time it's really hard to see, even when driving, and you don't always want your brights on, because there's also other people driving,” Mourra said.
ASG will meet again on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. in the Joslin Senate Chambers.
