Oxford Police respond to multiple open container violations as students return to campus

Between Aug. 26 and Sept. 1, officers responded to 23 different incidents, according to Oxford Police Department reports.

On Aug. 25 at 4:50 p.m., in the 5000 block of College Corner Pike, officers responded to a resident who said his motorized wheelchair had been stolen sometime earlier in the day. No suspects have been identified.

Later that day, at 7:45 p.m., in the 300 block of Tallawanda Road, the house president at Phi Kappa Tau reported to officers that over the past couple of days, someone had taken their banner from the front of the house. No suspects have been identified at this time.

On Aug. 26 at 9:36 a.m., on Snowy Lane, officers met with a parent of a juvenile to report inappropriate behavior by the child’s bus driver toward the student. A report was taken, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Aug. 28 at 11:24 p.m., in the 100 block of N. Poplar St., an officer, parked at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, observed a male walking across the parking lot with an open container. When the male saw the officer, he dropped the can and continued to walk. After stopping the subject, the male presented a fake Pennsylvania driver’s license. According to the report, he was identified and charged accordingly.

On Aug. 29 at 12:14 a.m., in the 30 block of E. High St., officers were conducting a routine foot patrol when a male walked towards them with two open containers of alcohol. Officers stopped him and gave him a citation.

On Aug. 30 at 2:27 a.m., in the 700 block of High Meadow Lane, officers were dispatched for a female who had cut her ankle monitor off and was actively trying to escape town in a white truck. After locating the truck, officers placed the female under arrest and transported her to the Butler County Jail.

That same morning, at 9:22 a.m., in the 5400 block of College Corner Pike, officers responded to an alleged assault. A report was taken, and the investigation is ongoing.

Later that day, at 10:08 p.m., at the intersection of West High Street and North Beech Street, OPD officers stopped a vehicle for running a red light. Officers then discovered the driver had an active warrant through the Hamilton Police Department (HPD). HPD arrived at the scene and arrested the driver.

On Aug. 31, at 5:43 p.m., in the 30 block of E. High St., officers responded to a female who reported fraudulent charges on her debit card after dropping and losing the card at an Uptown bar. 

On Sept. 1 at 12:43 a.m., in the 100 block of N. Beech St., officers responded to a passed-out male. He was transported to the hospital and issued a summons.
