Fans of the Miami University hockey program were given exciting news over the offseason, as the team’s recruiting class was ranked fourth in the nation by Neutral Zone. Despite this, one of the top recruits has decided to return home, keeping the class still toward the top in the country, but it certainly leaves a major hole.

Artemi Nizameyev previously played under Miami head coach Anthony Noreen and the new hockey general manager, David Nies, with the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Tri-City Storm. It appeared that the RedHawks were going to land him for the 2025-26 season and beyond. However, the 19-year-old forward is reportedly returning to Russia.

Last season in the USHL, Nizameyev scored 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points in 53 games, good for second on Tri-City in scoring. He ended the season as an All-USHL Third Team member.

Noreen spoke highly about Nizameyev’s work ethic and why he wanted to bring him into the RedHawks program back in November.

“You talk about someone who wants to get better, is addicted to getting better and will make guys around him better because of that? That’s Artemi Nizameyev,” Noreen said.

Nizameyev will return to Russia and play professional hockey for Chelmet Chelyabinsk in the Supreme Hockey League, otherwise known as the VHL.
