First-generation Miami student dies unexpectedly, survived by wife and children

Jeffery Jones, a full-time student at Miami University, died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 13.

Jones was 41 years old and is survived by his wife of 18 years and their three children. Jones was a first-generation student and was “one year short of finishing his dream of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design at Miami,” according to his obituary.

“Our hearts go out to his family and friends through this extremely difficult time,” the university wrote in a statement.

Jones’ passion was photography, and he worked as a freelance photographer at Jeffery Leon Photography for 14 years. According to his obituary, his work was even once displayed at the Columbus Museum of Art. Jones was also musically talented, and in his free time he was active in various ministries.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m., with a special message to honor Jones at 3:30 p.m. The gathering will take place at Vineyard Northwest Church in Cincinnati.

There will also be a gathering on Saturday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. at The Intersection Church in Toledo, Ohio.

Jones’ friends and family have set up a fund to help his wife and kids with financial needs at this time.
