Softball looks to extend 11-game winning streak with upcoming game against Butler

Miami is currently on an 11-game winning streak and remains undefeated in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

The Miami softball team has been on a tear recently.

The RedHawks have won 11 straight games, with the last ten coming against Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents. The team has had the mercy rule invoked in seven of their wins.

During the streak, Miami has averaged 9.7 runs per game and have given up just 1.1 runs per game.

The team’s last loss was against DePaul University on March 7. If the RedHawks managed to beat the Butler Bulldogs this Tuesday, they will have gone a whole month without suffering a defeat.

While Miami has dominated its competition this year, the Bulldogs haven’t fared quite so well. The team’s record is under .500, and its 5-7 conference record is middle of the pack in the Big East.

While the ’Hawks hope to maintain their winning ways, one thing is certain: no matter what happens, Miami will remain undefeated in the MAC. Since there is no conference tournament for softball this year, the team hopes to finish the season atop the conference standings.

Players to Watch

Allie Cummins has been the team’s best hitter this season. The junior infielder leads the MAC in batting average (.474), slugging percentage (1.070) and on-base percentage (.608). She leads the team in almost every offensive statistical category, and also leads the ’Hawks in put-outs on defense.

First-year Karli Spaid has been an impressive newcomer for the RedHawks. The infielder was 8-for-16 with two home runs, 13 RBIs and 6 stolen bases in a weekend sweep of Central Michigan last month. For her efforts, Spaid was named MAC softball player of the week for March 30, and was named the Louisville Slugger player of the week by the National Fastpitch Coach’s Association (NFCA).
