Campus arches: From Renaissance to renovation

Upham Arch, arguably one of the most well known spots on campus, highlights more than just Miami University’s affinity for long-lasting love. The arch is a prime example of Miami’s rich architectural history.

Arches can be seen throughout Miami’s campus. A popular place for many of Miami’s arches is above doorways. This is a common practice dating back to Renaissance architecture to help draw attention to important features.

At various locations across campus, arches have been modernized to fit the aesthetic of different buildings.
