If you have received an email from a professor recently and thought their email address looked a little different than it did before, you were probably right.

Miami University is in the process of changing its domain name from muohio.edu to MiamiOH.edu. Miami’s websites and email addresses will transition to incorporate MiamiOH.edu; however the domain name muohio.edu can still be used to reach any of Miami’s websites and to send email to and from Miami email addresses.

Currently, this email change mostly affects faculty and staff; however, students and lifetime email users will be affected later this school year.

Students and lifetime email users can receive mail from either their uniqueid@muohio.edu’ email address or their ‘uniqueid@MiamiOH.edu’ email address, but they cannot send email using the new domain. Students and lifetime email users will be able to send email from their uniqueid@MiamiOH.edu’ email address later this year once a MiamiOH domain has been created for Google users in muConnect.

Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to adopt the new domain in their email address by setting it as their preferred address. A ‘uniqueid@MiamiOH.edu’ alias has been created for each faculty and staff member. Faculty and staff members who are currently using non-UniqueID aliases (such as john.doe@muohio.edu) can convert them to @MiamiOH.edu addresses as well.

To have your email sent from your new @MiamiOH.edu address you must set it as your preferred address. For instructions on how to set the new address as a preferred email address see www.MiamiOH.edu/uit/node/897.

If you have any questions please contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 or ITHelp@MiamiOH.edu.

A Frequently Asked Questions list on the domain name is online, www.miamioh.edu/ucm/resources/domain-name-faq.htm. You can find information on the university’s web redesign project on the UCM blog, www.miamioh.edu/fixingtheweb.
