Miami hosts IT camps for area high school students

Miami University to host IT career camps
Promising high school students will be connected with some of the area's top business executives during Miami University's two Information Technology career camps.

The goal is to give students a true example of what a career in IT might hold. During the weeks of July 7 and July 21, students will live on the Miami Campus and will have the opportunity to delve into the IT world of companies such as Cincinnati Bell, Procter & Gamble, Kroger, and Toyota.

The camps are sponsored by The INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati, a partnership of local businesses and educators whose mission is to compel bright students to search for higher education opportunities and employment in the IT sector in southwest Ohio.

For a final project, the students will design a device that may be used by Abilities First in Middletown.

Prof publishes book on fashion in Weimar Republic

A Miami University associate professor of German recently published a book focused on how fashion served as an outlet for women's self-expression during the Weimar Republic.

In the book Women in Weimar Fashion: Discourses and Displays in German Culture, 1918-1933, Mila Ganeva uses Weimar fashion to suggest a new lineage of women's modernity where women were transformed from sex objects to multidimensional human beings. She bases her text on primary source materials like newsreels, novels and essays from the era.

Ganeva received a doctorate degree from the University of Chicago. In 2003, she became a member of the Miami faculty. She currently teaches German language, literature and film and organizes the department's Writer in Residence program.
