When officers noticed Young get in the car, start the engine, and turn on the lights, they reportedly began pursuing him in a cruiser. When the car reached the corner of High Street and Patterson Avenue, Young reportedly sped up and ran the stop sign. The police then reportedly activated their overhead lights to pull Young over. Young then allegedly ran the red lights on Patterson Avenue by Spring Street. Young then began to pass slower moving cars in no-passing areas.
As the chase continued on U.S. Rt. 27, Miami University Police joined behind OPD. Just outside of Oxford, Young reportedly increased his speed to over 70 mph As Young continued on U.S. Rt. 27, his speed allegedly reached over 100 mph. As the turn for St. Rt. 130 approached, Young turned on his left turn signal, but continued on U.S. Rt. 27. Butler County Sheriff officers then placed stop sticks in the road at Millville Road to puncture Young's tires.
Once stopped, officers pulled Young from the vehicle and he was brought to Butler County Jail. His Breathalyzer reportedly read 0.14 percent blood alcohol content. Young was charged with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, operating a vehicle without reasonable control and failure to comply with police.
