Miami University's For Love and Honor campaign hasn't seen much change since the beginning of 2009, but administrators still appear optimistic.

According Brad Bundy, associate vice president for university advancement and campaign director, the campaign has had huge success so far and is expected to surpass its original goal of $500 million by the end date.

"A lot of Miami alumni are passionate about their alma mater," Bundy said. "Plus the bicentennial year of 2009 provides those alumni an unprecedented chance to support Miami and show their pride and commitment. Our goal is to have Miami's alumni participation rate be in the Top 10 among public universities within five years."

According to Bundy, the lack of change within the last four months regarding funds is normal. At Miami approximately 25 percent of all gifts are given in the month of December.

"The first quarter of the calendar year is typically the slowest," Bundy said." People are not as confident in their financial situation-which becomes more clear once April 15 has passed. As the year goes on, donors are more and more willing to have discussions around charitable giving."

Started Jan. 1, 2002, the campaign hopes to raise $500 million by Dec. 1, 2010.

The campaign has a $500 million initiative with plans to take the university to new heights. The program aims to improve student financial aid, faculty support, student learning opportunities and facilities and grounds, according to Jayne Whitehead, vice president for university advancement.

However, the initial date has been pushed back from its original end date.

"The timetable (for the campaign) has been already extended from originally concluding Dec. 31, 2007, to now include the entire Bicentennial year, concluding on Dec. 31, 2010, with additional goals established," Whitehead said.

Even though the original deadline was pushed, Whitehead said members of the For Love and Honor campaign appear optimistic about reaching the goal.

Interesting title for this story. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is still 2008. If that is the case, then indeed fund raising is off to a slow start in "2009" because we haven't gotten there yet. (Continued…)
