The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) has invited the Panhellenic Association (Panhel), Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Miami University athletes to participate in its annual step show, "How We Move," at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Millett Hall.

The step show will be hosted by comedian Lil' Duvall and consists of two competitions. One competition will include the Miami teams, while the other includes the teams from nearby NPHC chapters. There will also be a performance from Miami student and vice president of the NPHC, Larry Cameron, Jr. according to event postings.

Junior and member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Cameron said NPHC wants the Miami community to learn about an aspect of its history.

"The history of stepping is something that ties back to the creation of our (NPHC) organizations," Cameron said.

NPHC is the governing body of Miami's traditionally African American Greek life, according to Miami's NPHC Web site.

Audrey Less, senior and a member of a Panhel sorority, said she thinks there is a lack of communication between other Greek organizations and the NPHC.

"I'm Greek and I really don't know anything about them," Less said.

Ray Woods, Miami alumni and member of Kappa Alpha Psi, agreed and said there has been a lack of unification and communication between other Greek organizations and the NPHC.

"In 2004 there was an organization called BRIDGE (or) Building Relationships in Diverse Greek Environments that promoted the inclusion of and interaction between IFC, Panhel and NPHC," Woods, former president of BRIDGE, said.

Woods said BRIDGE disbanded after a year due to lack of participation from NPHC members.

According to Latoya Irvine, public relations chair for Alpha Kappa Alpha, there has been a lack of communication concerning the coordination of events like Greek Week, but said the leaders of IFC, Panhel, and NPHC are trying to remedy this.

She said the invitation to NPHC from IFC and Panhel to Greek Week was a start and there have been a variety of programs and conferences since.
